NHS Fife’s orthopaedics service has been commended for its excellence in care by the British Orthopaedic Society and is currently the only in-patient department left in the Victoria Hospital’s Phase 2, tower block. NHS Fife’s Orthopaedic team provides a full range of orthopaedic services to the population of Fife. Our orthopaedic unit provides an elective service for patients with conditions which have developed over time, and a trauma service for patients who have been injured in accidents.
We are proud of our team: a team of highly specialised consultants, many of whom are nationally and internationally recognised for their expertise and experience. Our consultants are supported by nurses, therapists and other specialist clinical staff who are also experts in their field of orthopaedic care.
The service, led by 13 orthopaedic consultants, is leading the way in innovative procedures including minimally invasive surgery, day hip replacement and computer-navigated surgery. Consultants work together with other members of the orthopaedic team to provide a range of services at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy and an outpatients and day intervention service at Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline.
The Orthopaedic service boasts close links to local universities for both research and teaching and regularly plays host to undergraduate medical students. There are also students rotating through the department who are studying nursing, physiotherapy and many other associated healthcare professions.
