Staff in Fife Council’s Social Work and Housing & Neighbourhood Services, have been sharing Fife’s role in the National Independent Living Programme, with colleagues from across Scotland. Over 130 delegates, speakers, exhibitors and industry experts gathered in early June to debate and network at Scotland's nationalHousing Adaptations Annual Event in Glasgow.

The conference stimulated debate surrounding the issue of housing adaptations in Scotland by addressing topics such as creatingeffective partnerships;  tenants and adaptations; the National Independent Living Programme; mainstreaming inclusive design; and efficient procurement.

Fife Council’sTeam Manager for Child Health & Postural Management,Neil Carnegie said: “We were delighted to be invited to speak at this national event. It was an opportunity for us to share best practice, talk about the good work that we are doing with our partners in Fife to promote independent living for people with disabilities and how adaptations can help change people’s lives in a positive way”.

To coincide with the event, the Council has produced two information leaflets about housing adaptations.

John McArthur, Team Leader in Housing & Neighbourhood Services commented, “The information is designed to help people with mobility or disability needs, to easily access help with housing adaptations.”

For information about adaptations to private housing, the leaflet can be found at www.fifedirect.org.uk/privateadaptationsand the leaflet for adaptations to council housing can be found at www.fifedirect.org.uk/counciladaptations.
