Kids in the Kirkcaldy area won’t have any reason to be bored during the holidays thanks to area committee funding.

Kirkcaldy Area Committee agreed to give £23,706 towards a Kirkcaldy Area Activity Programme from the local area budget.

The money will be put to good use by the Kirkcaldy Youth Strategy Group to help fund a bumper list of activities this summer as well as in the October and February holidays and during National Youth Work Week too, totaling £60,857.

A number of different organisations from the Community Learning and Development Partnership (CLDP) are involved in the range of activities planned including Fife Fire and Rescue, voluntary sector organisations including the YMCA, YWCA and Clued Up, Fife Constabulary, NHS Fife and Fife Council’s Community Learning and Development (CLD) team.

And it was evident this week that the area committee money is already being put to good use as despite the rain and cloudy weather on Monday and Tuesday young people in the Kirkcaldy area enjoyed the Summer Sparkler event in the Beveridge Park.

The event gave youngsters a chance to take part in free fitness challenges, face painting, cupcake decorating and nail art.

There was also a graffiti art workshop where young people designed their own art boards to take home.

But those who missed out on the fun this week still have plenty of other fun events to take advantage of to beat the holiday blues.

Young people can enjoy a range of activities whatever they are interested in including sport, music, art, volunteering and food. The majority of the events are free with some costing 50p.

There are also events across the Kirkcaldy area including battle of the bands competitions and youth band showcases for music lovers, competitions for young people interested in skateboarding, football, a film premier, making food and gardening too.

Young people who live in Burntisland and Kinghorn who want to take part in a Kirkcaldy event but don’t have transport can also contact Fife Council’s CLD Team who will try to arrange transport for them so they don’t miss out.

Kirkcaldy area committee chair Councillor Neil Crooks said: “It’s fantastic that money from the area budget is being used to help give young people in the Kirkcaldy area so much choice of what to do!

”The packed programme of events really has something for everyone at little or no cost and it’s great that different organisations in the area have come together to provide a programme which doesn’t just cover this summer but also extends to cover the months ahead.

“It’s important that young people are given as many interesting opportunities as possible for their leisure time. I’m really pleased that some of our young people will get the chance to try something new and learn new skills whilst having fun in their holidays.”
