Public Health is defined as "The science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organised efforts of society." (Acheson, 1988)

The purpose of the NHS Fife Public Health Department is to improve the health and wellbeing of the Fife population and tackle the roots of ill health. Continuing collaboration with our community planning partners is essential if we are to improve health and reduce inequalities in Fife.

The Department is based in Cameron House, Cameron Hospital, Windygates. It is headed up by the Director of Public Health, Dr Edward Coyle.
