Ecology Centre
Profile
What we do
Ecology Centre (EC) is a community based project, situated in gently rolling hills overlooking Kinghorn Loch. The organisation was established in 1998 and currently has 2 full time employees, one part time and a team of 25 volunteers. The site is a haven for wildlife and is a tranquil spot for a walk or picnic.
The Centre provides direct experience of the environment to school groups, community organisations and individuals. We use nature as a tool to improve people's lives. At the same time CEC recognises that 'environment' is not just the countryside but includes urban areas and the people that live there.
We raise awareness of the environment and develop community involvement. A range of events are offered through our workshop programme: practical demonstrations, participatory activities and social gatherings. Opportunities are created for volunteering regardless of age or ability.
Environmental Education
Education is offered on several different levels. Our main target groups are primary schools, disadvataged groups and the over 50's but no one is excluded. Our classes for schools tend to concetntrate on learning through fun activities. The emphasis here is to inspire rather than educate. Those children with learning difficulties or behavioural problems, or those who are just less academic tend to benefit greatly from this approach to education. Our reasonable prices can be acquired by contacting the Centre.
Our Community Workshop programme has grown in poularity over the years and we try to offer a wide range of experience for the general public (see our website).
Membership to the Ecology Centre is open to all. A membership costs £9.50 for a family, £7.50 for a couple, £2 for Under 17s, £5 for an adult individual or £4 for students, unemployed and OAP's. See our website for an application form.
