Markinch District Community Choir
Profile
Markinch District Community Choir was set up in April 2011 to promote community spirit and develop an interest in singing. Our Choirmaster is Carol Ann Hedley, a specialist music teacher in Fife. No auditions are held and membership is open to anyone over 14 years.
There is a wide range of abilities in the choir and plenty of help and support for people who are new to choral singing. It is not necessary to be able to read music. We sing songs from musicals to classic pop, Scottish, West Indian, African and American - a wide variety in other words, as well as seasonal songs at Christmas.
We have about 40 members and are keen to welcome new members. If you have an interest in singing in a local community based choir please take a look at our website (coming soon) and come along to our rehearsals and join in with what we are doing. The rehearsals are fun and the atmosphere is informal. There is an annual subscription of £5 and the weekly fee is £4 (£1 for under 18s). It is advisable to bring a bottle of water with you as singing can be thirsty work. We aim to stage two or three concerts each year and will perform with other groups if invited. In 2011 we gave concerts in Markinch Town Hall in June and December and we sang at the Tullis Russell Mills Band Traditional Family Christmas Concert in the Rothes Halls. In 2012 we participated in the Queen's Jubilee concerts in May and held our own concert in June. Our Christmas concert is in rehearsal at the moment and we will be singing again with the Tullis Russell Band as last year.
