About Aberdour

Population: 1,690

Aberdour is an attractive village on the north shore of the Firth of Forth, about five miles east of the Forth Rail and Road Bridges. It looks south to the island of Inchcolm – the  “Iona of the East” – and over the river to Leith and Edinburgh on the south bank.

The village has much to offer in the way of visitor attractions. The “Blue Flag” Silversands beach and the “Seaside Award” winning Harbour Beach are highly popular and safe places for a day at the seaside. Few other villages can boast a ruined castle, beautiful 12th Century church, picturesque Harbour, superb golf course, modern childrens playpark, welcoming hotels, art galleries and shops. The traditional railway station has been voted “Best Station Garden in Britain” for it’s floral displays, and Aberdour has been voted the  Best Kept Medium Village in Fife” for the past ten years.

Aberdour is a favourite stopping place for hikers and cyclists on the Fife Coastal Path.

The annual “Aberdour Festival” celebrates music, sporting and other activities with a widely varied programme suitable for both adults and children. The village is twinned with Corte Franca in Italy and links between the two communities are being strengthened.

With so much to offer the visitor it is no wonder that Aberdour is rightly called “The Jewel of Fife”.
