All vaccines are tested for effectiveness and safety by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) before they are approved for use. They are also regularly reviewed after approved to ensure the vaccine meets high standards of effectiveness and safety.

NHS Fife is closely following MHRA and Scottish Government guidance and encourages all residents to accept the vaccine when they are eligible.

We will offer people a vaccine product in line with MHRA and Scottish Government direction.

For those eligible for a Covid booster will be offered a dose of Pfizer/BioNTech. Oxford/AstraZeneca may be given as your booster dose if you have medical reasons that mean you cannot have Pfizer/BioNTech.

Oxford/ Astra Zeneca vaccine

Everyone who has received their first dose of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine safely should receive their second dose as this gives greater and longer lasting protection against the virus. If you are eligible for a booster vaccination this will likely to be Pfizer/BioNTech rather than Oxford/AstraZeneca.

The Moderna vaccine

NHS Fife does not provide the Moderna vaccination. However, we do have an arrangement with NHS Lothian for people who require to have the Moderna vaccine as their booster. NHS Lothian are offering booster Moderna Vaccinations at the Royal Highland Showground, Ingliston to those who are eligible.

If you require a Moderna booster dose, please bring your relevant paperwork relating to your previous Moderna Vaccinations with you.
