A fund-raising family from Glenrothes have reached a milestone in their efforts to support the Fetal Medicine Team at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.

Alison and Rob Askew have now raised over £10,000 for the team, which operates out of the Maternity Unit, and the money will be used to improve the experiences of young patients.

The couple tragically lost their daughter Robyn in December 2014 when she was still-born at 27 weeks and five days. Robyn had Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, and Non-immune Hydrops which means the heart is unable to pump blood normally around the body.

Robyn Rocks was set up in February 2015 to fundraise in Robyn’s memory and has generated money in a variety of ways including donations, sponsored runs, and the sale of fashion necklaces.

Alison said:

“To reach this milestone of £10,000 in February and in time for Robyn Rocks first anniversary is just wonderful. The support we have received from friends, family, colleagues and complete strangers has been overwhelming since we started Robyn Rocks and we could not do this without their support.

“We are also thankful and will be forever grateful to Dr Tydeman and the team for the care myself, Rob and Robyn received from them.”

Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr Graham Tydeman, added:

”It would be an incredible achievement for anyone to raise so much in such a short time but given the experiences Alison and Rob have been through with Robyn, it makes it all the more remarkable.

“The money enables us to buy the kind of things that really make a difference for women and their families in difficult circumstances, but perhaps are not paid out of core NHS funding.

“Thanks so much Alison and Rob.”
