Our final #VolunteersWeek2017 profile looks at the work being done by Willie and Anne through the Inspire project...
Names: Willie and Anne Miller
From: Hill of Beath
Where do you volunteer: “We volunteer at the Victoria Hospital as part of the Inspire project, which supports patients that have been in the intensive care or high dependency units.”
Why do you volunteer (Jim): “Having had personal experience of the often arduous process of recovery, I can use this experience to support and motivate patients as they recover. My wife also has experience she can pass on as she looked after me and she chats with families and partners offering them any support or advice she can.”
How long have you volunteered: “Anne and I started volunteering around three weeks ago.”
What would your advice be to anyone considering volunteering? “You will get satisfaction helping and motivating people to get back to their best and personally I enjoy seeing improvements as time goes by; it reminds me what I was going through. I appreciate everything the hospital done during my recovery and, for me, it is about giving back. If you are thinking about volunteering then go for it.”
