Every year World Alzheimer's Day takes place on 21 September. It is an opportunity for organisations and individuals around the world to raise awareness, highlight issues faced by people with dementia and demonstrate how we can overcome them to help people live well with dementia.

Globally, dementia is one of the biggest challenges we face, with nearly 50 million people living with dementia worldwide. To tackle this global dementia challenge we need to work together, and to collaborate and share best practice with one another.

In achieveing this, Ward 15 welcomed visitors from the University of Edinburgh and from Mexico.

Dr Azucena Guzman (University of Edinburgh) and Sara Torres (National Geriatrics Institute of Mexico) came to see the Cosy Neuk vintage day room to learn about the creation of this room and the impact of this therapeutic environment for patients, relatives and staff. They are currently working together on a project in Mexico to implement psychosocial interventions in dementia care and improve antipsychotic prescritpion in dementia.

Dr Guzman and Sara Torres plan to utilise their learning from today to share with care settings in Mexico.
