Today NHS Fife and Fife Health and Social Care Partnership started its care home vaccination programme, taking the vaccine direct to homes to help protect residents and staff against the COVID-19 virus.

Staff and older residents started to receive the Pfizer/ BioNTech vaccine this morning after more than 5,000 NHS staff and vaccinators, of which nearly 1,000 were in NHS Fife,  got the jab last week.

NHS Fife is providing the vaccine to people in care homes according to the order of priority set out by the Scottish Government and the Joint Committee on Vaccination and ImmunisationThe vaccination programme team will work through that order of priority as quickly as vaccine supply allows.

This week there are more than 20 care homes in Fife that will participate in the vaccination programme.

By early January 2021, subject to further stringent approvals, other vaccines, such as those being developed by AstraZeneca and Moderna, should be available to allow NHS Fife to increase its COVID-19 Vaccination programme, in line with supply across other priority groups in the Kingdom.
