The Scottish Government has confirmed the appointment of three new non-executive members to Fife NHS Board.

The appointments of Alastair Grant, Mansoor Mahmood and Arlene Wood have been confirmed by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Humza Yousaf MSP, with each member appointed to serve on the Board for a period of four years.

Alastair Grant is a qualified accountant with more than 30 years’ experience working both in Scotland and the Middle East. Most recently Alastair worked for Sodexo Justice Services, until his recent retirement. Alastair brings to the Board proven commercial acumen, combined with good people management, team building, development and mentoring skills.

Mansoor Mahmood is the head imam at Kirkcaldy Central Mosque and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, a Diploma in Community Leadership and a Diploma in Healthcare Chaplaincy. Within his role at Kirkcaldy Central Mosque, Mansoor also works to raise awareness of inclusion and diversity issues, and he has also worked closely with healthcare colleagues to highlight the issue of diabetes within the Muslim community. Mansoor strives to create better tolerance and understanding of all faiths, backgrounds and cultures in Fife.

Arlene Wood was a registered nurse with more than 40 years’ experience working in the NHS. Prior to her retirement from nursing in May 2021, Arlene has held a number of professional and managerial roles across a range of services including Critical Care, Theatres, Orthopaedics and most recently within Mental Health Services. Within these roles Arlene was able to contribute to a range of development programmes to help improve service delivery.

Chair of the Fife NHS Board, Rt Hon Tricia Marwick, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Alastair Grant, Mansoor Mahmood and Arlene Wood to the Board of NHS Fife.

“All three appointees bring considerable expertise, garnered across a wide variety of different roles and experiences. I am in no doubt each will make a valuable contribution to our Board.

“I look forward to working closely with our new appointees as we continue to navigate the unprecedented challenges presented by the COVID pandemic and look to how we can support services to remobilise.”
