New Director of Pharmacy & Medicines Appointed

Mr Scott Garden has been appointed as the new Director of Pharmacy & Medicines with NHS Fife.

Pharmacy is an important part of the NHS Fife healthcare family and as Director of Pharmacy & Medicines,MrGarden will be responsible for leading, directing and managing the pharmacy service on behalf of NHS Fife and the Fife Health & Social Care Partnership.

Mr Garden graduated from the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, in 1999 and spent the early part of his career working in Community Pharmacy before joining the NHS in 2007 in the role of site lead pharmacist for the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. In 2014 he moved to NHS Fife and took on the role of chief pharmacist, acute services, where he has provided the leadership and vision to develop, implement and evolve an exciting and innovative programme of re-design and transformational change across the pharmacy service.

Over the last three years Mr Garden has been the chair of the Fife Area Pharmaceutical Committee (FAPC) which is representative of all registered pharmacy professionals providing NHS Services in Fife and has developed a strong professional network across all sectors of pharmacy. As chair he has been a member of the Area Clinical Forum which provides professional advice directly to the NHS Fife board.

Mr Garden is a Scottish Quality and Safety Fellow and has led on quality improvement projects both locally and nationally with the aim of improving patient safety with medicines.

Mr Garden succeeds Evelyn McPhail, who retired last month.

Scott has worked with NHS Fife for over five years as our Chief Pharmacist and has been instrumental in driving forward a wide range of pharmacy initiatives, including the redesign of clinical pharmacy services and introduction of a new patient medicines supply model intended to maximise the unique value adding contribution of all pharmacy roles and grades to produce the best possible pharmaceutical care outcomes for patients.”

In my previous role as Chief Pharmacist, acute services with NHS Fife, I was a member of the Area Drugs and Therapeutics Committee and vice chair of the Managed Service Drug & Therapeutics Committee. I will build on this experience and look forward to working in partnership with colleagues across NHS Fife, Fife Health and Social Care Partnership and Community Pharmacy across the Kingdom to continue to deliver a responsive and accessible pharmacy service for the people of Fife.”
