Fife's Type 1 Warriors - 16 Nov 2018

Staff in our laboratories recently hosted an event for a group of local young people from the Diabetes Scotland family support group, Fife Type 1 Warriors.

The majority of youngsters visiting have to attend regular hospital appointments to monitor their condition, often having to provide specimens without knowing where they go and what happens to them.

The visit started off at the South Lab where our visitors were issued with a mini lab coat and an ID badge. The group was taken to see how the HbA1c analysis is performed and shown around what happens in the specimen reception area of the lab.

In the North Lab, the Histopathology team showed some visual aids of what they do and Microbiology setup a mock lab with poop (chocolate mousse), urine (apple juice) and pus (yoghurt) to mimic inoculating plates.

As you can see from the photos, the staff in our labs enjoyed the day every bit as much as our young visitors did!

Thanks to our Fife Type 1 Warriors and everyone else who came along!
