Some of our current midwives modelling older nursing uniforms up to the present day uniform
Did you know?
- Nurses uniforms have their origins in the Nun's habit, before the NHS, Nun's would care for the sick and needy especially those with no family so some of their traditions carried over such as nurses being referred to as 'Sisters'.
- Epaulettes used to part of the uniform to denote hierarchy, this is now shown by the colour of their tunics
- Fob watches were often given to newly qualified nurses as gifts
- Our current uniforms for nurses are a tunic and pair of trousers
