NHS Fife launched a campaign on 10th September 2012 to reduce the amount of wasted medicines. The campaign aims to highlight the costs involved as a result of over-ordering of medicines, particularly on repeat prescriptions, or continuing to order medicines no longer needed.

Wasted medicines cost NHS Fife over £2 million per year. The campaign targets the general public, GPs and Care Homes staff.

All unused medicines should be returned to community pharmacies, and cannot be reused or recycled. Patients should be reminded to only order what they need.
