Public Dental Service
Fife's Public Dental Service is committed to promoting oral health within the kingdom of Fife. We aim to achieve this by developing effect preventative practice for oral health, providing a wide range of accessible services for priority groups who, for a variety of reasons, would not otherwise seek or be able to obtain treatment from a general dental practice
The Public Dental Service is a complimentary service to general dental practice. In practice this means serving all priority groups, including children or adults who cannot obtain treatment from a general dental practice. This includes patients with special needs or patients requiring specialised services including surgical dentistry and paedodontics. We also offer services for anxious patients; including sedation and general anaesthetics. We also assist with patients who are restricted to their homes or hospitalised.

The Public Dental Service also works with a range of internal and external organisations to promote a multidisciplinary approach to oral health promotion in schools, hospitals, care homes and with priority groups. We also monitor oral health throughout life via dental screening programs, providing statistical information and utilising this knowledge to help direct and plan local services here in Fife.
