International staff induction and training- Radiography

Welcome to NHS Fife.  We hope that this is the start of a long and rewarding career for all of our new international staff. This section describes your first few weeks with NHS Fife and covers your induction training.

Your first 4 weeks

We anticipate that your first week will be taken up with orientation to the local area and completion of our Corporate Induction process which included some mandatory training.  Following this next few weeks are likely to look something like this:

Week commencing MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY
Week 0     Flight to Scotland Met by NHS Fife Representative at Airport and accompanied to accommodation Given tour of accommodation, issued with keys, and shown where can buy groceries.   Escorted to Bank to open bank account and shown main shopping area Introduction to Lynne Innes, Staff Support (SCD pastoral support) Complete induction paperwork Explain how to get to work. Will be accompanied to Hospital on first day.
Week 1 Corporate Induction Meet available staff in Department Corporate Induction Meet available staff in Department Corporate Induction Meet available staff in Department Corporate Induction Meet available staff in Department Meeting with Lynne Innes, Staff Support (SCD Pastoral Support) Catch up with Alison McArthur, International Recruitment Coordinator Volunteers Service (Gordon Hume) take on Tour of Hospita
Week 2 Overview of Radiology Department – Tour of all Imaging services and introduction to specialist teams at VHK Radiology IT access set up Overview of radiology IT systems (CRIS and PACS) and post processing procedures Volunteers (Amy Walker and Josie Smith) take on Tour Local Area Understanding Radiation Protection- · TURAS modules · Local Rules · IR(ME)R procedures and teams’ presentations · Radiology examination protocols · DRL’s Radiology Staff Governance · Sickness absence reporting · Mandatory training Datix tour-Radiology incident reporting and near miss
Week 3 Observing practice in xX-ray Observing practice in X-ray Pick up Biometrics Residency Permit Observing practice in X-ray Observing practice in X-ray
Week 4  Equipment competency and shadow practice Equipment competency and shadow practice Equipment competency and shadow practice Equipment competency and shadow practice Equipment competency and supervised practice to continue until competency is reached and individual is signed off as IR(ME)R Operator
