Paracentesis is a medical procedure used to remove excess fluid from the abdomen, and can be caused by various conditions, including liver cirrhosis, heart failure, infections, or cancers. The procedure can help relieve symptoms like abdominal pain or pressure, and difficulty breathing.
For patients who need it regularly, this treatment used to require an overnight stay in Ward 44.
Now, however with the generous support of the Fife Health Charity, the Ward has been able to create a new treatment room which has significantly improved both the journey and experience of patients requiring regular paracentesis as they no longer require an overnight stay and are safely discharged home the same day. The new area boasts LED ceiling and wall panels to distract patients undergoing this invasive procedure.
I am delighted to be able to be given the chance to offer my opinion on the new treatment room. Without this facility I would have no quality of life at all. Being able to call up and receive the required treatment has made my life bearable. More rooms like this in this amazing ward could only be a good thing.
The room was lovely and calming. The picture on the wall was beautiful so much so that we looked it up and found the castle in the picture and planned to visit it we believe it to be Eilean Donan Castle.
Having the facilities to book people in for day procedures is amazing, the room works perfectly for the ward and hope it continues.
It is areas of the hospital like this that can really benefit from unrestricted giving from our donors and sponsors. Fife Health Charity is able to fund projects in areas like this, that many people don't see but which provide vital services and thus can benefit hugely from our grant making.
