Nutrition Folder 1

Small Grant funding has helped Fife Nutrition & Clinical Dietetic Dept produce a Nutrition Resource Folder for each care home in Fife. This practical guide for staff & carers promotes a "food first" approach for resident's health.

The Older People’s Services (OPS) dietetic team provide a dietetic service to wards at Queen Margaret Hospital, community hospitals, community clinics and care homes.
One way to provide equable nutrition education in care homes is to provide training within each home with the aim being to make the care homes more able to self manage nutrition and reduce the incidence of hospital admissions.

Each care home will be provided with a Nutrition Resource Folder covering:

  • Food fortification
  • Dysphagia
  • Dementia
  • Diabetes
  • Weight Management

Following the introduction of the nutrition resource folder the care homes will be better placed to encourage person centred nutrition care plans and can discuss the nutritional needs of residents with family members. The OPS dietitians plan in the future to conduct mealtime audits and discuss results with the care home managers.
