Talking Mats is an evidence based communication tool used to enable people with communication difficulties to express their views. The podiatry team have commissioned Talking Mats to create a series of podiatry and general foot health care cards to enable their patients to be involved in the decision making regarding their foot health.
Talking Mats is an evidence-based communication tool which assists people with a cognitive impairment or communication difficulty express their wants and wishes. Through the support of the Fife Health Charity NHS Fife Podiatry were able to commission Talking Mats to create and design Podiatry specific mats. These mats will help patients who may struggle to communicate their views on treatments and interventions participate in their care. The mats will enable the podiatrist to have a much better understanding of what really matters to the patients, which will help create truly person-centered care plans. From the funding three sets of Talking Mats have been created: prevention, treatment and impact.
The mats will are available to all podiatry staff in NHS Fife in a range of locations including clinical, care home, hospital and domiciliary setting.
