A Therapeutic Environment in Theatre Recovery
Project: A life size mural of a beach to provide a calming environment to patients as they recover from theatre
Where: Recovery ward in theatre, Victoria Hospital
Why: The mural was to help patients feel calm and relaxed as they came round from surgery
How: Painted by therapeutic artist Karen Masters after consulting patients
How much: £1200
Senior Charge Nurse Shirley Emery wanted to create a more tranquil environment in the recovery ward so that patients felt more relaxed and calm after their operations. Shirley contacted Karen Masters who specialises in consulting staff and patients to determine the design of the art work. Karen then painted the wall after ensuring infection control requirements were met and the building owners, Consort, supported the project.
