HWL Gold Award

NHS Fife has retained the prestigious Health Working Lives Gold Award in recognition of its dedication to the continued health, safety and wellbeing of its workforce.

Healthy Working Lives Awards are now in their sixteenth year and encourage employers to promote a healthier, happier workforce. This covers a wide range of topics, including health promotion, occupational health and safety, employability, mental health and wellbeing, community involvement, and health and the environment.

NHS Fife first achieved gold status in 2016 and a great deal of work has been taking place over the last three years to ensure this accolade was retained. Amongst the new initiatives noted were weekly exercise classes, access to the NHS Credit Union, and bereavement cafes alongside a range of other activities.

The Board were also assessed on areas including supporting staff mental health, smoking cessation, physical activity, health eating, improving health inequalities and financial support and assistance.

Commenting, Director of Workforce, Barbara Anne Nelson, said:

“We are delighted to be recognised by Healthy Working Lives with their Gold Award.

“We believe that a healthier, happier and more energised workforce is better able to provide the very best care for patients, and that’s ultimately the reason we are here.

“We want to be an exemplar employer and our focus is now firmly on where we can improve the health and wellbeing of our staff still further as we look to retain the Health Working Lives Gold Award in 2020.”
