May 5th sees us mark International Day of the Midwife 2025. NHS Fife proudly celebrates the dedication and exceptional contributions of its midwifery team and midwives around the world.
The theme of this years International Day of the Midwife is ‘Midwives: Critical in Every Crisis’ and seeks to highlight the vital role played by midwives during natural disasters and times of conflict.
We want to also recognise the highly skilled and professional midwifery team here in Fife, who deliver kind and compassionate care to women and their families across the Kingdom. In addition to the fundamentals of helping mothers to welcome newborns into the world, our midwifery team continue to develop and drive new initiatives like the Labour Hopscotch program which empowers expectant parents through guided exercises and relaxation techniques, enhancing the birthing experience.
Specialist teams, including the Vulnerable in Pregnancy (VIP) service, offer tailored support to women facing complex challenges, ensuring personalised care throughout pregnancy and beyond.
Indeed, the support offered to babies and mothers in the weeks and months following birth has seen Fife’s maternity services achieve UNICEF's Baby Friendly Gold Award, status it has held since 2019.
So on International Day of the Midwife, NHS Fife celebrates the hard work and dedication shown by our midwifery teams, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.
