Question

A comment is sought from NHS Fife on criticism that no minutes were taken at trans policy meetings, according to a recent FOI response (link).

Scottish Conservative shadow equalities minister Tess White MSP said: “This is yet another example of NHS Fife’s culture of secrecy.

“It defies belief that they didn’t take minutes when discussing their controversial trans policy. What’s with all the cloak and dagger?

“The onus is on SNP ministers to ensure that public bodies, including NHS Fife, are being transparent with the public.”

Response:

A spokesperson for NHS Fife said:

“While work had begun in Fife on establishing a local policy for transgender staff, it was quickly determined that this would not be required due to the development of national guidance intended to provide a ‘Once for Scotland ‘approach across all Health Boards.

“Initial scoping took place to consider membership for the policy group and agree a terms of reference, however, work to develop a local policy was stepped down before the group was formally convened.”
