NHS Fife, through the Fife Health and Social Care Partnership’s Children and Young People’s Continence Service, help to support children, young people and their families to address bedwetting, daytime wetting and toilet avoidance behaviour.
This week, as well as raising awareness of the service they offer, they’re reminding parents or carers to return vital equipment so they can support other youngsters in the Kingdom.
Shelia Kelly, Continence Team Leader, explained: “We offer alarm therapy as a treatment option for bedwetting and provide children and young people with an alarm on loan from NHS Fife for a 12 week loan period.
“We then ask for the alarm unit to be returned to our service to allow us to clean them, service them and then reuse to help support other children and young people to become dry.
“But we currently have a shortage of alarms because often they’re not returned to us after treatment is completed.
“We’re using World Continence Week as an opportunity to ask parent or carers if they’ve ever borrowed an alarm from our service, please return it to any of the clinics listed below as soon as possible.
“We can also collect them from your home address and parents or carers can arrange this by calling 01592 645200 and leaving their contact details.”
The alarms can also be dropped off at the clinics listed below.
If you’re returning an alarm, please ask the staff to inform the Children and Young People’s Continence Service that it’s waiting for collection, avoiding lunchtime if possible as clinics may be closed.
You can return alarms to:
- Whytemans Brae Hospital, Outpatient 7 Reception, Kirkcaldy
- Dovecot Clinic, Glenrothes
- Queen Margaret Hospital, Carnegie Unit Reception, Dunfermline
- Rosyth Health Centre, Rosyth
- Cowdenbeath Clinic, Rowan Crescent, Cowdenbeath
- Leven Health Centre- Community Desk
Shelia added: “These alarms make a huge difference to children and young people’s lives by helping them to become dry overnight. Please help us by returning them as soon as possible.”
If you want to access support from the Team, speak to your GP who can refer you to the service.
