The Scottish Government campaign ‘One less thing to worry about’ recognises that being a parent can be tough and sometimes a bit overwhelming. When you’re tired and stretched, the important decisions can feel hard to make. But knowing your child is vaccinated and protected means one big thing is taken care of, leaving you free to deal with everything else that comes your way.
The immunisation schedule has recently changed meaning that some children will be offered vaccines at different times in their lives. When they’ll be offered vaccines will depend on when they were born.
Your child will be offered a range of vaccines at different stages during their childhood. These vaccines help protect them against serious diseases. You may not have heard of all of the diseases because vaccines have made many of them very rare in Scotland.
However, it’s important that children are still vaccinated against these diseases. If children are not vaccinated, these diseases will become more common again.
Many of these diseases can have life-changing consequences. Some can also be life-threatening.
To help explain these changes, Public Health Scotland has developed and updated a range of resources to support informed consent including this video below.
