It's really important to take time to look after yourself, especially if you're supporting a child or young person who is struggling. It’s not always easy being a parent, and if you’re struggling yourself, please remember that it’s ok to seek your own support. Remember that it’s never selfish to take care of yourself. It’s like “putting your own oxygen mask on first” - taking care of yourself means you’re more able to look after others.

There are some simple things you can do - maybe take 5 minutes to have a cup of tea or give a friend a call for a chat. You might feel that these things won’t make a difference, but even a few minutes doing something for yourself can give you a chance to recharge.

One of the best things you can do is simply take regular deep breaths throughout the day - this helps to calm your nervous system. Breathe in through your nose and down into your belly, then slowly breathe out through your mouth - allowing your body to soften as you breathe out.

Other things that may help you with your wellbeing are getting good sleep, eating well, spending time outside, connecting with other people, and being physically active.
