
We are a highly specialist team of health professionals who work with children with learning disabilities, their families and wider team. Our team includes nursing, health care support worker, psychology, psychiatry, speech and language therapy, podiatry, dietetics, occupational therapy and admin staff.
Our service offers:
- Groups for parents/carers of children with a GDD (Parent Awareness of Developmental Difference (PADDS) or LD (Parent Awareness of Learning disabilitieS (PALS). These can be accessed via: www.accesstherapiesfife.scot.nhs.uk
- Specialist assessments and therapeutic interventions. Supporting children, parents and carers in developing coping skills, practical strategies and resilience around the impact of the GDD or LD/ID.
- We also help think about new or different ways to support the whole child/young person to access positive physical health and emotional wellbeing.
- We provide consultation and training (training form link) on a case by case basis. Please submit requests to the email address below.
Referring to our service
Referrals can be made by anyone who knows the child well.

We are a specialist service and all other universal services and supports should have been explored and tried before making a referral to our service. If concerns are school related, support should be in place from education professionals.
In order to access our service the child or young person must meet the following criteria:
- have a diagnosis of GDD or LD/ID or this is strongly suspected
be under 16, or still attend school - have a long term (3 or more months) increase in how often a behaviour happens, how distressed the child is and how long it lasts.
- This must be having an impact on the quality of life or physical safety of the individual or others
- Any physical causes for behaviour change have been assessed.
