Talk

Things to talk through with your family/ carers/ support team:

  • What activities are you involved in throughout your week?
  • Would you like to try other activities?
  • Are there activities that you would like to try that you have been unable to do?

Try

Sometimes keeping a house tidy and safe can be hard, particularly when you are not sure of who to contact when you need help and how to keep things clean.

Please find a list of emergency contacts below. For further information on support in self care activities please contact the Occupational Therapy department on 01383 565223.

Clearing Rubbish

"We recently worked with a person who was unsure of where to start with cleaning there living room and overtime rubbish piled up in the home. The person worked with Occupational Therapy and identified steps to clear the floor. The person removed a small amount of rubbish at a time and over a few days they had cleared the floor. By breaking what seemed to be a large task down into smaller manageable chunks meant that the person was able to clear the floor step-by-step.”

Making a home dementia friendly

“Recently we worked with an individual with Dementia that was having difficulty during personal care (for example forgetting to put the tap off after use). The carer discussed that the adult’s home environment no longer felt suitable to promote independence and safety. Occupational therapy were able to provide education to promote safety and independence in the adult’s home environment - making it more Dementia friendly. For example removing all trip hazards such as rugs and mats and using picture prompts as reminders around the house.”
