Talk
Things to talk through with your family/ carers/ support team:
- How do you know what is happening in your day?
- Is there someone that helps you plan your day?
- Do you use a visual planner? If so do you prefer pictures or words to show you what you have on each day?
Try
Try creating a visual planner that might help with your daily routine. Use the below templates as guides for how to lay it out. Try adding pictures or words depending on how you prefer to see your activities.

Picture Planner
“Recently one of the adults that we worked with had no daily structure or activity for managing their daily household tasks. Occupational Therapy worked with the individual and support staff to create a visual planner. With support from Occupational Therapy a visual planner was made and pictures used to help the individual identify activities in their day. Now the individual goes straight to the planner when their support staff arrive to identify the activity that they are to participate in.”

Remembering Appointments
“Someone that we recently worked with was having difficulty remembering to attend appointments as they were unaware of what their weekly structure looked like. Occupational Therapy supported the individual to make a weekly planner. The planner the days of the week with boxes underneath for the individual to write in the appointments and activities that they had on each day. To begin with the individual needed support from staff members to write in the activities. However now that this is a structured activity they are now able to write in their own weekly activities and are remembering to attend appointments as a result.”
