Review July 2026

We’ve listed lots of different ideas. Please pick the ones that match your child’s abilities and what they enjoy. Always watch your child while they do these activities to keep them safe. These activities work best when done in short, fun sessions a few times a day—at home, school.
Try these activities for 10–12 weeks to see if they help. If they do, you can keep using them as part of your child’s daily routine.

Set Up for Success

Good posture supports good hand use:

  • Sit at a table or on the floor with stable support.

  • Squeeze sponges or cloths
  • Use spray bottles for watering or cleaning
  • Practise dressing skills
  • Carry light bags
  • Help with cooking—mix, knead, roll, peel, cut, grate
  • Make sandwiches—open jars, spread, slice
  • Use cutlery
  • Pour drinks or scoop food

Creative & Craft Activities

Fine motor tasks that build strength and coordination:

  • Playdough or putty—roll, squeeze, pinch, cut
  • Bake—stir, roll, use cutters
  • Thread beads, buttons, pasta
  • Cut lines and simple shapes
  • Use staplers, hole punches, tape
  • Build with blocks, Lego®, pop beads
  • Open/close small tubs
  • Sharpen pencils
  • Dress dolls or teddies
  • Peel tape off fingers

Games & Playful Challenges

Quick, engaging ways to strengthen hands:

  • Squeeze a stress ball
  • Use tweezers or tongs
  • Drop coins into slots
  • Scrunch paper for target games
  • Build marble runs

Outdoor Strength & Big Movements

Whole body activities that support arm, shoulder and hand strength:

  • Wash the car
  • Simple woodwork (with adult help)
  • Ride a bike or scooter
