  • Be very active or always on the go
  • Trip or bump into things
  • Struggle to know how hard to push or pull

Doing activities that involve pushing, pulling, or lifting can help. These are called proprioceptive activities. They can help you feel calm and in control.

You may need extra proprioceptive input to help your brain to manage your thoughts, feelings and actions. 

We’ve listed some activity ideas below. Try these activities for 10–12 weeks to see if they help. If they do, keep using them as part of your daily routine.

Activities

Help at Home

Do jobs like hoovering, wiping tables, making beds, carrying laundry, and hanging up washing.

Gardening

Dig, plant, water, or carry tools.

Walk on Different Surfaces

Try walking on sand, grass, or up hills to make your legs work harder.

Walk or Jog with a Backpack

Carry a backpack with some weight in it while walking or jogging.

Play Sports

Join in with football, netball, or multi-sports clubs.

Go to the Gym – Muscle Activites

In Fife, you can join Gym64 from age 12, Fife Leisure Trust gyms from age 14, and Pure Gym from age 16.

Go Swimming

Swim for fun or exercise.

Wall Sit (Air Chair)

Lean against a wall, bend your knees, and pretend to sit on an invisible chair.

Push Hands Together

Press your hands together like in a prayer to give your muscles a squeeze.

Give Yourself a Hug

Wrap your arms around yourself and squeeze gently.

Push-Ups

Try push-ups using a chair, wall, or the floor.
