About me
Life journey started in East Africa, and from there schooling in Devonshire and University in London. Qualified from Kings College Hospital in 1993, completed my Basic Surgical Training in SW Thames and Higher Surgical Training NE Thames. My Fellowship year was spent studying lower limb Arthroplasty, Minimally Invasive Surgery and I have since developed an interest in Enhanced recovery (for which I am Orthopaedic lead in Fife). Saw the light and headed North into ‘The Kingdom’ to be appointed Orthopaedic Consultant in 2007.
I was Clinical Lead in Orthopaedics in NHS Fife from 2010-2015. I then held the position of Director of Surgery from 2016-19 and currently hold the position of Appraisal Lead for Secondary Care. From 2016-2020 I was chair of the Scottish Committee of Trauma and Orthopaedics and sat on the Council of the British Orthopaedic Association. I was appointed to the Council of the British Association of Day surgery in 2019 and since 2020 I have been the Orthopaedic Specialty advisor to the CMO.
In August 2018 visited Copenhagen to learn the techniques of Day Case Hip Replacement surgery and on 18/11/2018 performed the first successful Day Case Hip in Scotland. Since then the ERAS programme in Fife has gone from strength to strength with 20-25% of all my Hip Replacements now going home on day zero with an overall LoS of 1.7 days for all patients.
