Mr Adeel Akhtar

About me

I am an Orthopaedic Surgeon currently working as a consultant in NHS Fife and specialising in lower limb arthroplasty, arthroscopy, trauma and sports injuries after completing my fellowship in Sydney on lower limb arthroscopy, arthroplasty and osseointegration.

My clinical practice centres on knee and knee joint preservation techniques include realignment surgery (high tibial osteotomy), meniscal and cartilage procedures, general orthopaedics, and all aspects of musculoskeletal trauma including sports injuries management by practicing enhanced recovery techniques. I am currently studying the role of digital health in obese patients with end stage hip and knee arthritis as part of my NRS fellowship funded by the Chief Scientist Office, Scotland. NRS Career researcher Fellows April 2022 – March 2025 – Chief Scientist Office (scot.nhs.uk)

I believe in shared decision making with my patients to get the best results for them.

I completed basic surgical training in Leeds and specialty training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in the North East of England. I was awarded an MD from the University of Edinburgh studying the role of hypermobility in ACL injuries and shoulder instability. I successfully completed the Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland and passed the National Intercollegiate Fellowship exam FRCSEd (Trauma & Orthopaedics) and European Fellowship exam in Orthopaedics and Traumatology (FEBOT) in 2018. I also completed post graduate diploma in Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery from Golden Jubilee Hospital in Glasgow and received training on biological therapies from Academy of Regenerative Medicine.
