Fife - What a surprise and delight! Fife gives me the best of two worlds – a fulfilling career and great opportunities for down time amongst lovely countryside and coastal villages.

Susanna Galea-Singer , Clinical Lead, Addiction Services

Everything at your fingertips

With stunning coastlines, unrivalled access to outdoor activities, world famous local cuisine, and areas steeped in history, Fife is swiftly emerging from the shadows of Scotland’s major cities. Whether you are an outdoors person, or someone who prefers the busy night-lights, Fife has something for everyone at a stone’s throw from Scotland’s major cities.

Striking a work life balance

We strongly believe that a fulfilling career helping people to live long, and healthy lives should not mean choosing between work and home life. We know how important the work we do is, but we also understand that our staff have a life and responsibilities outside their roles, and we will work with you to find balance. Fife has much to offer.  Fife may be a small region, relatively unknown outside Scotland, but it punches above it's weight.

See our guide below.

Living in Fife

Be at the forefront of psychiatric services

NHS Fife is one of Scotland’s most innovative psychiatric services, where our clinicians lead from the front – and the leadership roles we are recruiting to provide an attractive opportunity to drive the design and implementation of psychiatric services at an exciting time for the Health Board.

We have close academic ties with three of Scotland’s most prestigious universities and we offer undergraduate teaching opportunities at the University of St Andrews, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Dundee.

We also provide clear opportunities for career development, support professional allowances, offer clinician time to support the acquisition of Certificates of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR), and sponsorship, where required.

Scotland in miniature

Fife is often referenced as ‘Scotland in miniature’, and this is reflected in national initiatives, which are often piloted in the region by Government before they are evaluated or rolled out across the country. A recent example of this within psychiatry includes the pilot for an adult neurodevelopmental disorder pathway. Fife is also engaged in the national network focused on a personality disorder improvement programme.

I relocated from Sussex, England, in 2020. It’s a great place where fresh ideas are welcomed amidst a brilliant blend of experience, senior support, and creative energy. Fife offers a unique balance of town and country living, with great road and rail links, city, town and village living opportunities.
