An information resource is enabling local GPs to see how the service they offer to patients can be improved and helping to identify particular local health issues.

The Scottish Primary Care Information Resource (SPIRE) is a service that can be used by GPs, NHSScotland and the Scottish Government to improve care and plan services.

It allows information from GP practice systems and records to be transferred anonymously, via a secure system, for analysis.

SPIRE has been rolled out across Scotland to GP practices since 2017.

Rigid rules and security checks are in place to ensure all information is held securely.

Anyone who does not wish their information to be used can opt-out using the form at www.spire.scot or ask practice reception staff from a form next time they are in their GP surgery.

You can find out more information on SPIRE and your choices by visiting www.spire.scot
