Police Scotland has thanked the public for their overwhelming support and co-operation through the first week of new regulations on social distancing.

Officers issued just four fixed penalty notices in Fife, with a total of 144 issued nationally, between 27 March and 1 April.
With the vast majority of people complying with social distancing guidelines, officers only issued fixed penalty notices where individuals persistently flouted the regulations or refused to co-operate with requests to comply.

Police expect the high levels of co-operation to continue as awareness and understanding of the guidance increases but have said they will use enforcement powers in cases where people are clearly disregarding the regulations.

Members of the public are reminded to leave their house for essential reasons only – food, medicine, care, exercise or work, which absolutely cannot be done at home – and to stay two metres away from people that are not part of their household.
