Works have recently been completed to the gynaecology unit at the Victoria Hospital aimed at enhancing the care available to gynaecology patients in Fife.

The inpatient gynaecology service at the Victoria Hospital moved to a dedicated area within the Women and Children’s Unit of the hospital prior to the COVID-19 pandemic as part of a programme to optimise the use of healthcare facilities in Fife.

Works to enhance the physical environment were initially due to begin in 2020, however, were delayed due to the pandemic. The project to enhance the gynaecology unit resumed last year and works commenced in February 2023.

The project has enabled the creation of a bespoke triage clinic, a new waiting area, five side rooms, a four-bed bay area, in which has increased the number of in-patient beds within the ward to 9. Works have also included enhancements to sound-proofing and new signage for the service.

The design of the enhanced unit was informed by feedback from gynaecology patients and clinicians.
