NHS Fife has now officially been accredited as a living wage employer by Living Wage Scotland.

Living Wage accreditation formally recognises and celebrates employers who choose to go further than the government minimum for all staff and contract workers.

The real Living Wage is an independently calculated rate based on the cost of living and is paid voluntarily by employers. The rate is calculated annually by The Resolution Foundation on an analysis of the wage that employees need to earn in order to afford the goods required for a decent standard of living – this includes housing, childcare, transport and heating costs.

The living wage movement has delivered a pay rise to more than 60,000 lower-paid Scottish employees and given them an extra £370 million since 2011, with more than 3,000 living wage employers now based in Scotland.
