The exhibition was originally produced to mark the 120th anniversary of the society and brings together historic and contemporary images of Kirkcaldy, showing how familiar places have changed over time.

The exhibition will run for nine months, with 80 images in total featured across the exhibition period. An initial selection of 40 photographs, hung by Kirkcaldy Photographic Society members Rab Kerr and Andrew Mitchell, will be on display until midJuly, followed by a further 40 images which will remain on show until the end of the exhibition.

The photographs featured include well-known and muchloved local landmarks such as Beveridge Park, Ravenscraig Castle, Kirk Wynd, Seafield Tower and Sailors’ Walk. Together, the images offer a powerful visual record of how the town’s streets, coastline and public spaces have evolved over time, while retaining their strong sense of local identity.

Cathy Davies, President of Kirkcaldy Photographic Society, said: “This exhibition is a special way for us to celebrate both the history of our society and the history of Kirkcaldy itself. By placing historic images alongside contemporary photographs, we hope visitors will enjoy reflecting on how the town has changed over the years, while recognising the familiar landmarks that continue to shape Kirkcaldy’s identity.

“We’re delighted to have the opportunity to share this work with the community in such a wellused public space, and we’re grateful to Fife Health Charity for their support.”

The Community Gallery at Victoria Hospital provides an opportunity to showcase local artists and community groups while helping to create a more welcoming and calming environment for patients, visitors and staff. The gallery has been supported by Fife Health Charity as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing hospital spaces across Fife.

Speaking on behalf of Fife Health Charity, Charity Director Mark McGeachie said:

“We are delighted to support the ‘Kirkcaldy Then and Now’ exhibition at Victoria Hospital. Showcasing local photography within our hospital spaces helps to create a more welcoming environment and gives patients, visitors and staff the chance to connect with the local area while they are here.”

The exhibition is free to view and is located within the Community Gallery at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, in phase 2 of the hospital adjacent to the ‘Grab & Go’ coffee shop.
