Question:

Comment is sought regarding a situation where a young patient who attended Queen Margaret Hospital MIU on Easter Sunday and was transferred to Victoria Hospital for treatment. The family had not telephoned NHS 24 on 111 and had self presented. The child was triaged and referred onto VHK for treatment

Response:

A spokesperson for NHS Fife said: "We do not discuss individual cases for reasons of confidentiality.

"However, we would re-emphasise if a member of the public has suffered a non-life-threatening illness or minor injury in the last seven days they should always call NHS 24 on 111 first.

"Calling NHS 24 on 111 will enable them to be clinically assessed and offered an appointment at either a Minor Injuries Unit or Urgent Care Centre, once they've been assessed to determine the most appropriate place for them to receive care."
