NHS Fife accepts the findings and requirements set out following Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s unannounced inspection of mental health services at Stratheden Hospital and is committed to delivering the improvements identified.

The safety, dignity and quality of care experienced by patients, alongside the support provided to staff, remain NHS Fife’s absolute priorities.

Director of Nursing, Gillian McAuley said of the report:
“I would like to thank colleagues for their continued hard work and professionalism in caring for our patients, particularly in what we recognise is a very challenging environment.

“Alongside the areas of good practice, we recognise there are areas where improvement is necessary. We would also like to reassure patients, families and carers that a comprehensive improvement action plan is now in place, with clear responsibilities, timescales and oversight arrangements to ensure progress is delivered and closely monitored.

“Immediate action was taken at the time of the inspection in January to ensure staff were better listened to and supported, and then further action on training compliance to ensure safety. Evidence of these actions were provided to Healthcare Improvement Scotland.”
