Healthcare Staffing

The Health and Care (Staffing) (Scotland) Act 2019 comes into force on the 1st April 2024.

The aim of the legislation is to provide a statutory basis for the provision of appropriate staffing in health and care service settings.

This will enable the delivery of safe and high quality services. It will ensure the best healthcare or care outcomes for service users.

The Health and Care (Staffing)(Scotland) Act 2019, stipulates that boards have a duty to follow Common Staffing Methodology. This includes using the Staffing Level tools and Professional Judgement to inform and ensure we have appropriate staffing in place for the speciality specific areas for where there are tools developed.

Quality, person centred and safe care remains the core of the Health and Care (Staffing)(Scotland) Act 2019.

The focus is on ensuring having the 'right staff, with the right skills, in the right place'.
