Course Description

This programme is for all Healthcare Practitioners band 2 and above and aims to aid Healthcare Practitioners in gaining the necessary knowledge and skills to support recognition and early management of the deteriorating patient within the community/care home setting.

The learning outcomes within this full day face to face programme are:

  • Recognise the patient at risk of deterioration
  • Use appropriate assessment tools to aid in the early identification of the deteriorating patient e.g. FEWS/vital signs
  • Distinguish between an acute and a chronic deterioration
  • Recognise and manage the deterioration confidently and competently
  • Consider alternative approaches to the deteriorating patient

Prior requirements

Prior to attendance at this programme, registered/unregistered Healthcare Practitioners must have completed the course prior requirements (pre-requisites) listed opposite and the following additional pre-requisites.

  • Level 2 Adult resuscitation or equivalent within the last 12 months
  • Be competent in vital signs and blood glucose monitoring
