Course Description
This programme is for Registered Healthcare Practitioners band 5 and above and aims to ensure Healthcare Practitioners gain the knowledge and skills required to safely and competently prepare and administer medication by continuous or intermittent infusion and bolus.
This programme will replace the existing model of face to face training and will consist of an eLearning programme and work based skill acquisition to attain competence with support from PPD and Pharmacy, if required. Incorporated into the Preparation and Administration of Medicine by Infusion programme is the safeMedicate programme for numeracy competence. safeMedicate is an eLearning programme that will support Registered Healthcare Practitioners by enabling them to work at their own pace while learning about preparation and administration of intravenous medication in the context of their own practice.
Registered Healthcare Practitioners must show evidence of prerequisite completion, to their assessor. Supervised practice must only occur following the completion of the safeMedicate programme, and by achieving the required 100% pass mark in all the medicines calculation assessments (Essential skills, bodyweight and body surface area calculations and injectable medicines therapy).
Registered Healthcare Practitioners must successfully complete the NHS Fife Preparation and Administration of Intravenous (IV) medication eLearning module which can be found on TURAS Learn (or on request the paper-based pack) prior to accessing safeMedicate programme.
Prior requirements
In addition to completion of the eLearning (or pack on request), Healthcare Practitioners must also complete a number of course course prior requirements (pre-requisites) listed opposite.
The self declaration form process must be followed for this course.
