Course Description
This programme is for Healthcare Practitioners band 2 and above and aims to support and enable the Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) to gain the necessary knowledge to obtain measurements for all the vital signs required (Temperature, Pulse, Respirations, Oxygen Saturations, Blood Pressure; Neurological Assessment) in order to calculate the Fife Early Warning System Score (FEWS). This programme will replace the existing model of face to face training and will consist of an eLearning / Education Pack (available on request) and work based skill acquisition to attain competence.
This programme will support Healthcare Practitioners in their study, enabling them to work at their own pace, learning about vital signs in the context of their own practice. Throughout the work booklet, activities are included which will encourage reflection, decision making and develop upon observational and cognitive skills.
It may be appropriate, following patient assessment having been undertaken by a Registered Healthcare Practitioner for recording vitals signs to be delegated to a Band 2 and above who has successfully completed the relevant aspects of an NHS Fife approved training programme.
Prior requirements
In addition to completion of the Vital Signs Education Pack, Healthcare Practitioners must also complete a number of course prior requirements (pre-requisites) listed opposite.
