The Paediatric Orthopaedic Out-patient Service includes

  • General paediatric orthopaedic conditions
  • Orthopaedic conditions related to children and young people with neurodisability including the management of focal spasticity
  • Secondary surveillance for Developmental Dysplasia of the infant hip (DDH)
  • Management of infant foot problems including the management of Congenital Talipes equino varus (CTEV) following Ponseti protocols

The Paediatric Orthopaedic service is primarily led by Advanced Practice Physiotherapists (APPs) supported by Orthopaedic Surgeons and Consultant Radiologists at RHSC Edinburgh and NHS Fife. APPs are specialist clinicians who have undertaken additional training. They work in a similar role to the Consultants within the Paediatric Orthopaedic Outpatient clinics.

At the appointment the CYP will be seen either by an Orthopaedic consultant or APP depending on the reason for referral.

Children and Young people (CYP) and families are at the centre of our service. We aim to ensure our focus is on what matters to you as we work together to assess, diagnose and manage any orthopaedic concerns/issues.

Families are routinely copied into all clinic correspondence.

We are always looking for ways to improve our service and use Care opinion for service user feedback
