About me

I am a Specialty Doctor in Orthogeriatrics. I undertake Comprehensive Geriatric reviews and provide day-to-day medical care to the frail patients in the orthopaedic trauma unit, predominantly in hip fracture patients. I work in ward-based multi-disciplinary teams with orthogeriatric, nursing and allied health professional colleagues.

I graduated from Edinburgh University in 1991 and initially joined General Practice after completing training in NHS Fife. After 12 years I took a career break and returned to hospital medicine as a GPwSI in Medicine of the Elderly in 2010. The opportunity to sub-specialise in the new role of ortho-geriatrics within the department was grasped in 2011 and the team has expanded, to include consultant geriatricians and Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and continues to evolve as the volume of frailty in the population grows.

In addition to my day-to-day clinical practice, I teach regularly in NHS Fife across a range of disciplines. I am an Honorary Clinical Lecturer for the University of St Andrews. I am in the advanced stages of MSc in Peri-operative Medicine and plan to undertake Quality Improvement work in frailty in the trauma patient cohort as my dissertation project.

Beyond work I enjoy walking up hills and generally being outdoors, especially with a cup of tea to hand!
